Under clear skies and perfect softball weather, Coldspring delivered a dominant performance from the first pitch to the final out, securing a commanding 16-4 victory over the Lady Longhorns.
Jasper Williams ignited the Lady Trojans’ offense with a towering home run over the right-center field fence, driving in three runs and energizing the dugout. The blast pushed Coldspring out to a 6-0 lead and set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Coldspring never looked back.
The Lady Trojans maintained control throughout all seven innings, applying consistent pressure at the plate and on the bases. Tarkington managed to push across three runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth, but every time the Lady Longhorns showed signs of momentum, Coldspring answered.
The Trojans added three runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth, and capped the day with a four-run seventh inning to seal the 16-4 win.
Williams delivered a standout performance, driving in six runs on three hits to lead the offensive surge. As a team, Coldspring pounded out 13 hits. Trinity Rosales, Taonna McGraw, Camry Barton, and Cassidy Loll each recorded multiple hits, keeping the pressure squarely on the Longhorn defense.
The Lady Trojans drew an impressive 15 walks, forcing Tarkington’s pitchers to work deep into counts. Ciara Phillips and Olivia Lee led the way with three walks each, while Alina Romagus added speed on the basepaths with two stolen bases.
In the Franklin Tournament this weekend, Coldspring had a winning Saturday, beating Huntington 10-8 and Whitney 91. Thursday was a different story, as the Lady Trojans lost to China Spring 8-0, to Gateway College Prep 5-3 and to Gatesville 21-5.
Throughout the tournament, the team combined for 39 hits and 18 RBIs, while the pitchers tossed 15 strikeouts.
The Lady Pirates had a great week on the diamond, going 5-1 at the Cleveland Tournament over the weekend, but losing to Hudson 12-2 on Feb. 24.
Against Hudson, Isabelle Hooper and Brooke Chaney shared mound duty, combining for 6 strikeouts but giving up 12 hits. At the plate, Skyleigh Lagow, Hooper, Swayzie Nelson and Karsyn Wiley each had hits, including doubles from Nelson and Wiley.
On Thursday, Shepherd downed Splendora 2-1, and beat MacArthur 11-8 on the first day of the tournament. On Friday, Shepherd beat Humble 5-4 and Cleveland 7-0, and on Saturday, they lost to West Fork 5-3 but came back to beat host Cleveland again 10-0.
Throughout the tournament, the Lady Pirates had a total of 44 hits driving in 33 runs, and pitchers combined for 35 strikeouts, 16 alone from Isabelle Hooper.
