SHEPHERD — The Pirate school system is on average performing better than the state in many educational and non-instructional areas.
During a public hearing at Thursday’s SISD Board of Managers meeting, Director of Teaching and Learning Tammie Hewitt pointed out areas of success in the report, which is a more comprehensive review of performance, since it includes parameters such as absenteeism, demographics, disciplinary issues and even school staffing.
The report covered information from the 2022-23 school year.
Other areas the district was ahead of the state include graduation rates and career, college and military readiness, meaning 95 percent of students leaving Shepherd were ready for the next phase of life, as opposed to the state percentage of 76.
However, the district was much lower in SAT results, and had a higher percentage of beginning teachers and teacher turnaround.
The report listed the top disciplinary issues reported were drug and alcohol-related and fighting, although not many reports were filed.
