I’m probably going to shock a lot of readers, but I really have to say that I just can’t bring myself to care about the Epstein Files.
I will say that as a father of three daughters, that I will move Heaven and earth to ensure their safety, and I hope that all of the victims will at some point receive the justice they deserve.
No one, particularly young people, should be put through the experiences that these children and young adults have, particularly at the hands of people who feel they are above the law because of status or bank account. This information, however, is, or soon will be, in the hands of the proper law enforcement agencies and should be dealt with that way.
The powers that be, though, are using this as the latest scandal and both conservatives and liberals are unleashing attack poodles to dig up the latest scandal. It’s reminiscent of another “Bloom County” panel, whereby all the intrepid reporters, including Milo Bloom, were hounding local U.S. Sen. Lucius Bedfellow about whatever the latest scandal was, which all had the suffix “gate” attached.
Once the senator told them he had been cleared of those scandals, they walked away, dejected, and on the way out, rifled the senator’s mailbox, which had a Sears catalogue in it. (Anyone Gen X or older understands this.) Ultimately, that became the next “gate” scandal.
That’s the feeling I get any time I see an elected official or some self-appointed Morality Hall Monitor spin their ideas about why the Epstein Files haven’t been released. There is recriminations that this is all a deflection from the ICE issues in Minnesota; there’s supposition after supposition that the delay is due to President Trump executing a massive cover-up of his name, which purportedly is in those documents more than 3,000 times; and the existence of the files is proof positive that the president is a pedophile.
I can’t turn on talk radio of any kind, liberal or conservative, without hearing the name Epstein. I can’t read headlines on news pages of any large newspaper, television station or podcast without seeing the words Epstein Files.
Lately, these Epstein Files have taken on new life as the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (which, to me, is like a committee of foxes investigating chicken murders in the henhouse, or, at the very least, massively oxymoronic) is holding hearings, and have subpoenaed Bill and Hillary Clinton, who don’t want to testify. They eventually agreed to the hearings.
But why are we wasting the amount of tax money we are to hold hearings run by elected officials supposedly attempting to oversee government operations? Seems to me, operations are straight-up broke, given that our “leaders” can’t seem to agree on funding the government, but when they do fund the government run up tabs larger than all the drunken sailors in history.
I truly believe that there will be no resolution at the end of this — no arrests, no new legislation, no consequences of any kind. If there is, I probably won’t care about that, either.
