POINT BLANK — The Point Blank City Council still has not selected a mayor.
Former Mayor Mark Wood said the selection process is still up in the air.
At the July 14 meeting, Wood said the council discussed going to a city manager style of government and placing City Secretary Kelly Hoot in the position, but on the advice of the Texas Municipal Leaue, the members decided against because of the $16,000 cost of an election to approve the change.
In the meantime, the city council will appoint a mayor pro tem on a rotating basis. The current pro tem is Council Member Mel Basham.
Rich Booth, who was elected mayor on May 3, had to decline the position over a family emergency, and work requirements will keep Mayor Pro Tem Mel Basham from serving as a full-time basis.
Wood continues to work with FEMA, any grants and the budget because of his experience, and Hoot handles phones and requests.
“It will be this way until someone steps up,” he said.
