Coldspring Garden Club visited Massey's Home-Grown Plants in Shepherd last Thursday.
Bubba Massey and his wife own this beautifully arranged Garden Nursery located on Shraderville Road just off FM 223 in Shepherd. The start of the visit brought a quick heavy rainfall which soon moved away, and everyone enjoyed the talk from Bubba and a look around the gardens.
Massey's has lots of native plants and trees and beautiful hanging baskets, flowers, fruit trees and more. The Garden Club asked questions and bought items and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. President Rhonda Sherling led a short business meeting and said we would meet again in November on the first Thursday of the month at Coldspring Community Center.
Massey's became a member of Shepherd Chamber of Commerce and will have a ribbon cutting in the near future.
•The second annual Murder Mystery Dinner was held on Saturday at Coldspring Community Shelter. Entitled “Midnight at the Masquerade,” guests were encouraged to dress in costume and wear a mask. A silent auction was laid out at the rear of the Hall while the tables were elegantly decorated with black and gold tablecloths and runners, lamps and flowers. Mary Gray Catering created a lovely meal, and a cash bar was available.
The actors instructed the guests that one of them had used a poisoned mask to kill the victim. Suspects lined up on stage to be questioned and possibly give a clue or two to the audience. The Coldspring Public Library staff and Board members did a marvelous job bringing all the elements of a very enjoyable evening together for their guests.
At the end of the evening the murderer was revealed and two tables proved to have guessed right. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library will benefit greatly from this event. President of the Library Board, Marsha Brown, said we now have 183 children in the program in our county. The night was a great success. Call for information on programs at (936) 653-3104.
•Shepherd Library and The Community & Children's Impact Center had a visit from some members of the Center for Spiritual Living Houston, with donations for them of items new and still boxed in some cases, with books and magazines, new preserve jars and new electronic items.
Friends of Shepherd Library had a meeting last Thursday. The Sunday bingo evening at Willis is a lot of work for President Rick McIntyre, but it is proving to be a worthwhile venture. Together with his wife, Administrator Terri, they are able to create more programs for the Library, provide snacks and drinks for the events like teen night, game night, ladies bingo, tiny tale story time and both book clubs. They said we will be able to donate to the Dolly Parton Program through this venture. To know more call (936) 628-3515.
