Road repair tests yield results

POINT BLANK — After testing different road repair methods, the Point Blank City Council authorized Mayor Emeritus Mark Wood to purchase street sealing and crack filling equipment.

Wood said that at the March 12 meeting, the council discussed the test, which involved 30 different products and applications for repairing streets, and found that spraying is the best process.

While the city will seek bids for the equipment, the council decided against seeking another grant for funds for disaster recovery.

In a separate matter, the council approved revising the city’s sign ordinance to include the Texas Bandit Sign Rules, which dictates the areas that candidates for elected office cannot place signs — essentially in any TxDOT right of way.

In other business, the council:

  • approved the purchase of American Flag Pole Kits for the 250th Independence Day Celebration on July 4, but will need to check with TxDOT on placement so as not to violate Bandit Sign rules, and also determine what subdivisions will participate in the display;
  • discussed instituting building codes, but did not approve any. Wood said that if the city adopts codes, they will have to enforce it, and it is not in a position to do that;
  • organized a candidate meet-and-greet for 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at 7360 Highway 190;
  • discussed the addition of fiberoptics in North Woods; and
  • discussion a city election for May 2. Aldermen Gary Wulf, Mel Basham and Jim Woods are up for re-election this year.
