•County Commissioners approved the appointment of Margie Ainsworth as San Jacinto County Auditor, at a salary of $73,339.62. State law indicates the approval was necessary to ratify the choice made by District Judge Travis Kitchens and District Judge John Wells.

County auditors provide oversight of all financial books and records of all county offices, in order to “maintain the integrity of financial administration in county government,” according to the Texas Association of County Auditors.

•County Commissioners approved a tire recycling event April 10 at Precinct 1 and 3, and April 11 at Precincts 2 and 4, from 7:30 a.m.-noon or until trailers are filled.

The Precinct 1 site is at 141 FM 222 in Coldspring; the Precinct 3 site is at 31 Lilley Yeager Loop North; the Precinct 2 site is at 550 N. Byrd Ave. in Shepherd; and the Precinct 4 site is at 401 Counts Road in Point Blank.

Tires accepted will be normal vehicle tires and must be off the rim. No tractor tires or heavy equipment tires will be accepted, and tires must be from individuals, not commercial dealers.

The annual event is funded by grants from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and DETCOG.

•County Commissioners approved the purchase of a mat, at a cost of $799.99, for the Sheriff’s Office to be used in training for takedown methods. Chief Deputy Stan Jolly said the mat would help prevent training injuries.
