Shepherd aldermen ban social media platform

SHEPHERD — In order to comply with the wishes of the state, the Shepherd City Council on Nov. 11 approved a ban of the TikTok app from all city devices.

City Secretary Debra Hagler said that Gov. Greg Abbott declared the site a threat, and required all municipalities to do it as well; governmental entities have until the end of November to pass a resolution was to assure the state that the social media platform had been banned.

In other business, the council:

• approved a manufactured home variance at 70 Oak Lane after a required additional inspection was performed;

• approved the sale of an alley behind the property owned by Joe Munke, provided there is an agreement that the city can access the alley to get to sewer cleanout;

• approved a change to the city attorney’s employment contract to reflect the change of status; and

• set Tuesday as the day to canvass votes in the city election. Currently, of the three candidates the top two vote-getters are William “Billy” Lacoste with 436 and incumbent Yvonne Ryba Cones with 159. Third candidate Lisa Stockwell-Almazan garnered 155. The top two will be selected for service on the council.

Shepherd Mayor Charles Minton received 604 votes in his unopposed re-election bid.
