SHEPHERD — After field complaints over the last month regarding trash being dumped in the city, the Shepherd Board of Aldermen voted to take steps toward deterrence.
At the March 9 meeting, the council approved placing no dumping signs in the problem areas.
City Secretary Debra Hagler said that additionally, the Shepherd Police Department has been investigating complaint, names are being gathered from the trash and citations have been issued.
She said the signs are being placed as a potential deterrent.
In other business, the aldermen:
- discussed repaving Mitchell Road. The Public Works Director has been getting quotes and looking into the possibility of having the work completed through the city’s interlocal agreement with the County.
- discussed contractors working on roads and utilities during city event. Hagler said the topic was brought up after the damage to the water main occurred on the same day as opening day of youth baseball.
- tabled discussions on using capital expenditure funds to repair a water line on Highway 150 and to purchase a tractor in order to obtain additional quotes.
- agreed to a $2 per hour pay increase for a contract employee.
- set a workshop for March 16.
