The Shepherd ISD Board of Managers recognized Vianey Castilla, Carolyn Cruz, Abigail Tarrant and Jessica Salas for successfully completing the NSpire program, a "grow your own" program designed to support experienced instructional paraprofessionals as they pursue their teaching degrees and certifications. Participants in the program also teach full-time while simultaneously completing their education, fostering professional growth and contributing to the success of students.

SHEPHERD — The Shepherd ISD Board of Managers gave its blessing to move forward to the strategy phase for the district, during which plans for the four identified priorities will be created.
At the board’s regular meeting on Thursday, Superintendent Dr. Jason Hewitt said the plan to take the district through 2030 will be one that unites all aspects of the system as a team, and will start in June.
New goals are necessary as the current strategic plan — Vision 2025 — has run its course.
Hewitt said there are four priorities the district will focus on: student improvement and growth, talent acquisition, community engagement and financial planning.
All priorities will be as transparent as possible, he said, and require engagement from both staff and community members.
Hewitt said a plan is necessary to unite parents, community members and educators with a shared focus for student and staff success, as well as facilitate the transition from a Board of Managers to a Board of Trustees.
In other business, the board:
- approved course offerings at Shepherd High School;
- approved an agreement with San Jacinto County for road maintenance;
- heard a complaint from a Cleveland resident about the use of her service dog; and
- accepted a $1,000 check from the Texas Association of School Boards to be used for a scholarship for a student.
