West Orange-Stark made the trip to Shepherd for a key district matchup, bringing with them the confidence and pride of a program fresh off a remarkable football season that culminated in a UIL State Playoff appearance in Dallas. The visit served as a strong representation of the competitive district both programs call home.

While West Orange-Stark continues its transition from football to basketball season, Shepherd returned to the hardwood fully intact, and it showed. After battling injuries in the previous matchup against Tarkington, the Pirates welcomed back all starters, including their primary point guards, allowing the team to return to its familiar rhythm and winning formula.

“We had our starting point guard back, and it helped a lot with play definition and the overall hustle of the team,” Head Coach Jeremy Bennett said after the game.

From the opening tip to the final buzzer, Shepherd played with purpose and control. West Orange–Stark showed flashes of promise late in the second quarter, briefly taking a one-point lead, but that momentum was short-lived. The Pirates responded with composure and execution, heading into halftime with a slim two-point advantage.

“Our original game plan was back in place, and it worked,” senior forward Bryson Goodman said. “Get the ball to the big man under the basket, Brayden White.”

The third quarter proved to be the turning point. Shepherd elevated its intensity on both ends of the floor, stretching the lead through disciplined defense, crisp ball movement, and consistent interior scoring. Once separation was established, the Pirates never looked back.

Brayden White once again led the charge, posting a game-high 26 points and going 4-for-7 at the free-throw line. Goodman followed with 8 points, while Rogelio Covarrubias added 4 points and went 2-for-4 at the line. Benjamin Coyle contributed 4 points, and Jamal Horton chipped in 3 points, going 1-for-2 at the stripe. Davis led the scoring for West Orange–Stark.

Final Score: Shepherd 53, West Orange–Stark 38

Scores by quarter:

  • Shepherd: 12, 14, 15, 12 — 53
  • WOS: 10, 10, 8, 10 — 38

With the win, Shepherd clearly signaled a return to its winning ways.
