COLDSPRING — The San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office has a new narcotics detection K-9, Bear, who was generously donated by the non-profit organization K9s.org.

K-9 Bear and his handler, Deputy C. Nava, are currently training alongside the Harris County Sheriff's Office to complete the certification process required to become a fully operational narcotics detection team.

Once certified, this team will serve as a valuable resource in detecting illegal narcotics and removing dangerous drugs and firearms from our streets.

"This donation is more than just a dog- it's an investment in the safety of our community," said Sheriff Sam Houston. "With Bear, along with our Operation Lone Star K9 Lola at our side, the Sheriff's Office will be better equipped to combat narcotics-related crime and continue working toward a safer San Jacinto County."

The Sheriff's Office extends its gratitude to K9s.org (http:/k9s.org) for their support and generosity. Their commitment to equipping law enforcement agencies with K9 partners ensures communities like San Jacinto County can benefit from this proven crime-fighting tool without bearing the financial burden.

K9 Bear and Deputy Nava will soon join patrol operations, focusing on narcotics detection and supporting deputies in the ongoing mission of protecting citizens and making San Jacinto County a safer place to live.
