COLDSPRING — In celebration of the Gifted and Talented Program, students in the district’s first through eighth grades showcased their hard work, creativity, and historical knowledge at a special exhibit during the April 28 COCISD School Board meeting.
Throughout the school year, GT students engaged in an independent research project centered on a historical figure of their choice. Students dove deep into history, selecting individuals who inspired them and had a meaningful impact on the world. As part of the project, each student delivered an oral report, designed an informative poster or display board, and built a creative model representing their chosen figure.
Projects were displayed at the April board meeting, where families, board members, and community guests were invited to view and celebrate the students’ efforts. From miniature replicas of historical settings to a carefully crafted statue of Elvis Presley and biographies galore, the high school foyer was filled with energy and curiosity as students explained their work and shared what they learned.
“Our GT Coordinator, Courtney Bailes, is the little engine who makes it all possible,” said District Director of Special Programs and Innovative Learning Missy Eichman. “This event not only highlights the depth of student learning, but also the incredible support from our GT students' families and COCISD's Educators who received 30 hours of training in addition to a six-hour update each year to differentiate their learning.”
The evening served as a reminder of the talent and potential within the district’s GT program and a fitting tribute to GT Awareness in Texas.
