Trojans rally to secure district win

COLDSPRING — The Trojans completed a sweep over Trinity with a strong 12-2 win on Friday, following up their 7-3 victory on April 7.

Coldspring delivered a dominant 12-2 win on senior night in the Friday game, celebrating a group of 13 seniors in unforgettable fashion.

From the opening inning, it was clear the Trojans were determined to put on a show. A wild pitch brought in the first run, and McCall Hilton followed with an inside-the-park home run to quickly ignite the crowd and give Coldspring a commanding early lead.

The Trojans continued to build momentum in the second inning, with Jordan Ash ripping a double to extend the lead and added more runs in the third behind timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, including a steal of home by James Clark.

Ash also set the tone on the mound, delivering four strong innings while allowing just one run on three hits and striking out five without issuing a walk. The bullpen duo Justin Lindley and Tripp Strickland closed things out to secure the win.

At the plate, Coldspring tallied nine hits, with Ethan Hamilton, Jacob Ash, and James Clark each recording two hits. Hilton led the team with three RBIs, while Hamilton and Clark helped fuel an aggressive approach on the bases, combining multiple steals as the Trojans swiped nine bases in the game. Defensively, Coldspring was flawless, not committing a single error.

On April 7, the Trojans came from behind to down the Tigers.

Coldspring struck first in the opening inning when Jordan Ash delivered an RBI single. Trinity answered quickly, taking a brief 2-1 lead in the bottom half, but the Trojans responded with resilience.

James Clark tied the game in the second inning with a productive groundout, and Coldspring took control in the third. RBI singles from Ash and McCall Hilton helped spark a three-run inning that gave the Trojans a 5-2 lead they would not surrender.

Brayden Sherman got the start on the mound, working four innings while allowing just two hits and three runs, none earned, while striking out six. The pitching staff did enough to hold off Trinity despite issuing several walks.

At the plate, Jordan Ash led the Trojans with a standout 3-for-4 performance, while both Ash and Hilton drove in two runs each. Coldspring also applied pressure on the basepaths, stealing seven bases, with Ash swiping two. Trinity showed patience at the plate, drawing 11 walks and stealing six bases, but Coldspring’s timely hitting and aggressive baserunning proved to be the difference.

Shepherd

The Pirates faced a tough challenge against a high-powered Hampshire-Fannett lineup, falling 9-1 on April 7.

Hampshire got on the board early in the first inning, taking advantage of a dropped third strike to score the game’s opening run. Shepherd answered in the third, when Marshall Reeves came through with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. The tie didn’t last long, as Hampshire responded with a three-run inning in the bottom half of the third.

A series of well-placed hits and a sacrifice fly helped the home team regain control and build momentum. Hampshire’s pitching proved dominant throughout the night, as their starter struck out 16 batters over six innings while limiting Shepherd’s offense to just four hits.

Kyler Syracuse battled on the mound for the Pirates, striking out seven over five innings, but was tagged with the loss. Offensively, Ben Coyle provided a bright spot for Shepherd, leading the team with two hits from the bottom of the lineup. Reeves added the Pirates’ lone RBI, while the team continued to compete despite the deficit.

On Thursday, Shepherd battled but couldn’t overcome a big third inning from Hampshire, falling 9-4.

After a competitive start, Hampshire broke the game open in the top of the third inning, capitalizing on a mix of timely hitting and Shepherd miscues. A groundout brought in the first run, followed by two runs scoring on errors and a two-run single to give Hampshire control.

Shepherd continued to compete throughout the game but couldn’t fully recover from the early deficit. Kyler Syracuse led the Pirates at the plate, going 2-for-4 and adding two stolen bases as part of Shepherd’s aggressive effort on the basepaths. The team finished with five stolen bases in the contest.

On the mound, Marshall Reeves took the loss after allowing five runs over three innings. Despite the setback, Shepherd’s pitching staff continued to battle against a disciplined Hampshire lineup that drew six walks.
