COLDSPRING — The Coldspring-Oakhurst Trojans hosted the Tarkington Longhorns on Nov. 25 in a highly competitive non-district matchup. Although the scoreboard ultimately favored the visiting Longhorns, the Trojans showed fire, resilience, and unmistakable Trojan Pride throughout the night.
Facing a much larger 4A roster, Coldspring entered the game outnumbered nearly three to one in available players. Tarkington rotated fresh legs through the lineup all night, creating a pace that would challenge any team, but the Trojans refused to back down. They battled possession-to-possession, showing grit and determination that energized the home crowd.
Tarkington’s depth helped them post quarter scores of 22, 20, 30, and 16 for a total of 88 points, while the Trojans answered with 10, 17, 15, and 13 for a final of 55.
Decoriyon Barnes led Coldspring with 15 points, followed by Brennen Lilley with 10. Deshawn McKenney added 8 points, going a perfect 1-for-1 at the line, while Amandre Sparks contributed 6 points in the effort. The Trojans hit 22 two-point field goals and three three-pointers, going 4-for-9 from the free-throw line.
Defensively, Coldspring recorded 19 personal fouls and just one technical, playing aggressive but disciplined basketball against a high-tempo opponent.
While the Trojans are still adjusting to a new coaching staff and an entirely new playbook, the signs of growth and potential were evident. A few early-season miscues are normal as players learn expectations and timing, but the foundation is clearly taking shape.
On Nov. 24, the Trojans were downed by Porter 65-26.
The Pirates lost three games on the week, falling to Splendora 83-29 on Nov. 24, then to Diboll 49-39 on Nov. 25, and then to West Fork 67-61 on Saturday.
Against Splendora, Rogelio Covarrubias led the team with 10 points.
Against West Fork, Brayden White crashed the boards with 21 points, followed by Covarrubias with 15 and Chase Greenwood with 10.
