CENTERVILLE — After a heartbreaking loss on Wednesday to Wells, the Centerville Bulldogs defeated Martinsville 60-28 on Friday.
The win puts the team’s record at 6-1 in district (20-4 overall), but the loss moved the team out of the Top 10 in the state, hovering in 11th place.
Jake Slaten pulled off another double-double, sinking 32 points and pulling down 11 boards. Iain Kendrick chipped in 11 points in the win.
Against Wells on Wednesday, the Bulldogs lost 75-69.
Slaten did top duty again, with 28 points and 18 rebounds. Wyatt Clede added 18 points, and Hardy Brown had 10.
Friday’s game against Coldspring was very physical, and while the Tigers came close, the Trojans won 54-47.
Trinity did manage a win over Anderson-Shiro on Jan. 14, downing the Owls 58-53. This brings the Tigers to an overall record of 15-5 and a district record of 1-1.
Head Coach Colton Jackson said Trinity had to overcome a lot of tough calls throughout the game, but they stuck together, lifted each other up, and never gave up.
The Tigers rallied behind big-time performances from Ayden Debose with 30 points, Terian Maxie with 14 points, and a double-double from Cordé Walker, who finished the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Indians lost to Normangee 70-53 on Jan. 14.
Head Coach Augustus Moore said that even though the team lost, there was a lot of improvement on the court.
“We are very young and inexperienced; we are in last and haven’t won a district game,” Moore said. “We have suffered injuries all year long and haven’t played a game yet with our full team.”
The varsity boys won the battle of the Eagles by downing Zavalla 52-42 on Friday.
On Jan. 14, the Eagles lost to Broaddus 85-62.
Top scorers were Zeth Dugat with a whopping 27 points, followed by Cooper Campbell with 17 and Dilyn Baird with 11.
The Lady Indians won over Normangee in a game that went down to the wire.
Leading scorers were Kayleigh Albus with 12 points, Laney Peterson with 10, and Darbi Parker with 3.
The Lady Tigers were outplayed on Friday, falling to Coldspring 54-21.
Trinity suffered another loss on Jan. 14, falling to Anderson-Shiro 46-17.
While Mariah Tyson was able to pull down 10 rebounds, the Lady Owls held her to only 7 points.
The Lady Bulldogs lost to Wells 52-30 on Jan. 14, and lost to Martinsville 54-22 on Friday.
The Lady Eagles dropped two last week, a 99-8 loss on Jan. 14 to Broaddus and a 62-19 loss to Zavalla on Friday.
Katie Davis was the high scorer in the Broaddus game with 5.
