NACOGDOCHES — For the first time in 32 years, the Centerville Bulldogs have entered the area round of the baseball playoffs after downing Slocum 7-2 and 4-0 on Thursday.
Coach Geoff Hollis said that Hardy Brown in game 1 and Jake Slaten in game 2 pitched “phenomenal” complete games to earn Centerville a spot in the second round of the playoffs.
The wins also make it nine in a row for the team, which has been enjoy great success in sports this school year.
Beginning Friday, the Bulldogs begin a best-of-three series against Brookeland. The teams played in April during district, when the Bulldogs suffered their last loss at 5-4 in a game that went seven innings.
The Indians fell in the first round of the playoffs to Shelbyville, losing 11-2 on Friday and 5-0 on Saturday.
Groveton managed only two hits in the first game and three hits in the second and struck out 16 times in the first and six in the second.
Groveton pitchers gave up nine hits in the first and eight in the second, and eight walks combined.
