After a late start on the diamond due to a postseason basketball romp, the Centerville Bulldogs opened the baseball season with a 16-1 drubbing of Latexo on March 4.
Jake Slaten led the offense with 8 RBIs on 3 hits, including double in the third and fifth innings that each scored three. Kolt Larsen added a triple in the effort.
Slaten also had mound duty, striking out five and giving up zero hits and one run over two innings. Wyatt Clede and Hardy Brown came on in relief and shutdown Latexo.
Apple Springs
The Eagles went 1-2 on the week, beating Slocum 14-5 on March 3 but losing to Centerville in a doubleheader on Friday, 7-1 and 11-4.
In the first Centerville game, Peyton Williams, Kane Dugat, Kayden Roden, Cooper Campbell, Ethan LeBlanc and Tristen Eddins all had hits for Apple Springs, while Kolt Larsen had 3 hits and Hardy Brown 2 to lead Centerville.
In the second game, Kaden Roden led the Eagles at the plate with 2 hits, and Jake Slaten led the Bulldogs with 2 hits and 4 RBIs.
Groveton
On March 3, the Indians hammered Chester 11-1.
Dax Parker led the team with 3 hits that drove in 2 runs, while Jake Plotts had 2 hits including a double. Cash Moore threw the full game, striking out 6 while giving up only 2 hits.
Groveton then went 2-1 in the Douglass Tournament over the weekend.
The team downed Elkhart 5-3, with Plotts leading with 2 hits at the plate, and Dax Parker and Ty Torregrossa taking turns on the mound, striking out six.
The Indians lost to Shelbyville 3-1 on Friday but won 5-3 over Cushing.
Against Cushing, Grayson Savage, Ty Torregrossa, Cash Moore and Cade White all had hits for the offense, and Torregrossa got the win on the mound with 5 strikeouts while giving up 4 hits.
Trinity
The Tigers dropped four straight in the weekend Douglass tournament, losing to Mt. Enterprise 7-0 and Cushing 7-2 on Thursday and losing to Douglass 6-0 and to Frankston 13-5 on Friday.
Girls
Apple Springs
On March 4, the Lady Eagles overpowered New Summerfield 16-1.
Faith Smith, Jade Aycock and Hannah Turner all had 2 hits apiece in the win, while Smith and Lauren Lankford toed the mound, combining for 3 strikeouts and giving up only 2 hits.
On Friday, Apple Springs lost to LEAD Academy 14-3.
Faith Smith led the offense with the lone hit that produced 2 RBIs. Smith and Abrie McWhorter took turns on the mound, combining for 9 strikeouts but giving up 10 hits.
Groveton
The Lady Indians beat Brookeland 5-1 in the district opener on Friday.
Trinity
The Lady Tigers lost to Madisonville 11-4 on Friday.
