Charlie Howard Stewart was born on May 27, 1926, in Petaluma, Calif., to Willie Pryce Stewart and Pearl Harper Stewart. He passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, in Groveton, at the age of 98.
Charlie had a deep passion for farming and ranching. He was a proud graduate of Sam Houston State University. In Meridian, on May 16, 1953, he married the love of his life, Ann Layne. Together, they built a life centered around faith, family, and hard work.
A devoted member of Oaklawn Baptist Church, Charlie served on the church board and was also a resolute member of the Texas Farm Bureau. Additionally, he was a 60-year member of the Eastern Star Lodge AF&AM 284.
Charlie honorably served in the United States Navy, where he spent 18 months on sea duty. His service to his country was a testament to his strength, dedication, and commitment to others.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Pearl Stewart; his beloved wife, Ann Stewart; his son, Layne Stewart; his brother, Calvin Stewart; and his sister, Sue Kendrick.
He is survived by his loving grandson, Dusty Stewart, and his wife, Lacy Stewart. He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren, Dottie Bea Stewart, Pryce Stewart, Theda Stewart, and Henrietta Stewart.
The family received visitors on Sunday, March 16, at Oaklawn Baptist Church. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 17, at Oaklawn Baptist Church, officiated by Lester McAdams. Interment followed at Bennett Cemetery.
Charlie Howard Stewart will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his faith, and his community. His legacy of love, kindness, and hard work will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
