CHESTER – Chester City Council approved the bid from Donalson in Silsbee to buy a new service truck for its Chester Gas Company at their regular meeting, Monday evening June 2.
Among the bids, Donalson came in as the most attractive.
The council briefly debated a few GPS tracking options, and they will take that up at the next meeting.
From an executive session at their previous May meeting, they adjusted one employee from salary to hourly as that employee shares time with the Chester Water Company.
A substantial discussion ensured over some gas pipe equipment that taps into a line. There will be two prices set for a new line depending on the workload and whether the existing pipe for a new line is steel. They hope to minimize cost. However, if they have to hire outside help, that cost must be passed onto the customer.
There was one customer past due who has been working diligently with City Secretary Balela Weaver to keep up.
