COLDSPRING — Lamar State College Port Arthur announced a new partnership with Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School District to provide adult education and industrial craft-related dual education programs.
This collaboration, formalized through an interlocal agreement signed in early January 2025, aims to offer specialized training in high-demand industries directly on the Coldspring High School campus.
The first program under this partnership will be an NCCER CORE and NCCER Pipefitting Level 1 course, set to begin on March 7. Classes will be held on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. over 10 weeks, with one weekend off at Easter.
The course provides 160 hours of hands-on training and the opportunity for students to earn two nationally recognized NCCER certifications.
The classes will take place in the Construction Trade Shop, Room 508, at Coldspring Oakhurst High School, offering students access to state-of-the-art facilities. Tuition for the class is $2,500, with some tuition assistance available for qualifying students.
For more information or to inquire about registration, students should contact Brent Rozell, Executive Director for Workforce Training at rozellbh@lamarpa.edu, or call (409) 984-6535, or Donna Thomas, Workforce Development Counselor, at abramsdl@lamarpa.edu or (409) 984-6232.
"We are thrilled to launch this partnership with Coldspring Oakhurst CISD,” Rozell said. “This program not only provides students with valuable certifications, but it also opens the door to great career opportunities in industrial trades right here in our community."
Looking ahead, LSCPA and Coldspring Oakhurst CISD are working together on a JET grant application to bring new electrical training equipment to the district. The goal is to introduce electrical and mechanical maintenance classes by the third quarter of 2025.
