Drugs, elementary schools do not mix

FRED – Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford reported a recent arrest of a man who was searched, and found to have drugs, at an elementary school.

Weatherford said that the incident happened on the first day of November, at 10:30 p.m., when deputies, who were patrolling in the Fred area, made contact with Joseph Gordon Parker, a 50-year-old Fred resident, who was riding a bicycle in the parking lot of Fred Elementary.

“While speaking with Parker, deputies developed probable cause and conducted a pat-down search,” Weatherford said. He was found to have a small plastic baggie containing a crystalline substance, which field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Parker was taken into custody and transported to the Tyler County Jail. He was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, enhanced due to his being in a drug-free zone.

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Tina Self set Parker’s bond at $30,000 and he remains in custody.
