Groveton beats all comers in the Indian Classic

GROVETON — The Indians went 6-0 on the week, including 5-0 in tournament play where the team only gave up 3 runs.

Groveton beat Hull-Daisetta 16-0 on Feb. 25, then in the classic, downed Normangee 16-0, St. Joseph Catholic 4-1, Woodville 4-1, West Hardin 12-0 and Deweyville 9-0.

Apple Springs

The Eagles went 4-0 on the weekend, beating Slocum 5-0, Crockett 9-1, Latexo 6-5 and Slocum 14-5 in the Latexo tournament.

Trinity

The Tigers went 0-3 at the Colmesneil tournament over the weekend.

Trinity lost to East Chambers 10-3 on Thursday. William Lee and Avery Williams each had hits, and Cove Copley and Austin Wallace took turns on the mound, combining for 5 strikeouts while giving up 12 hits.

On Saturday, Trinity lost to Kirbyville 14-4, with hits coming from Williams, Chanston Holland and Canyen Hollis, and Williams and Austin Beasley on the mound, tossing only 1 strikeout while giving up 17 hits.

Also on Saturday, Trinity lost to Kountze 18-4. Copley, Wallace, Williams, Hollis, Christian Vaughn and Ja’Kavion Pettie. Hollis and Vaughn worked the mound, combining for 6 strikeouts and allowing 12 hits.

Apple Springs

The Lady Eagles lost to Mount Enterprise 15-0 on Feb. 25.

Over the weekend, the Lady Eagles went 1-3 at the New Summerfield Softball Tournament.

Apple Springs lost to Crockett 7-2 on Friday, with Faith Smith getting 2 hits to lead the offense, while tossing three strikeouts and giving up 6 hits.

The team then lost to West Rusk 8-3, with Sophie Oldham leading the offense with 2 hits and Abrie McWhorter throwing 5 strikeouts and giving up 5 hits.

Apple Springs then downed New Summerfield 10-1. Smith and Jade Aycock had 2 hits apiece in the effort, and Smith got the win on the mound with 6 strikeouts while allowing only 3 hits.

The Lady Eagles lost to Arp JV 9-5. Smith, Lauren Lankford, Oldham and McWhorter each had a hit in the game, and Smith and McWhorter shared mound duty, combining for 7 strikeouts while giving up 6 hits.

Groveton

On Feb. 24, the Lady Indians downed Joaquin 11-7, and then Tatum 23-5.

On Feb. 25, the team beat Pollok Central 7-5.

Groveton went 2-2-1 at the Franklin tournament, beating Rogers 10-4 and Leon 7-0, while losing to 5-3 to Lorena and 7-0 to Riesel. The team tied with Mineola 4-4.
