GROVETON — The Indians were outclassed by the first-place team in the district with a 52-0 loss to the Centerville Tigers.
Turnovers spelled defeat for Groveton, which the Tigers were able to capitalize on. Centerville posted 38 of their 52 points in the first half.
However, Groveton coach Michael Waldie said Trystin Ard and Wyatt Snead stood out on both offense and defense.
Trinity
Head Coach Shaun Stout said the Trinity Tigers ran into a monster named Newton, which handed the team a 64-0 loss on Friday
“Newton (5-0, first in district) is very, very good,” Stout said. “They will travel deep in the playoffs. They might even win it.”
Outstanding players for Trinity were Senior Jonathan Baker, Sophomore Corde Walker, Sophomore Brady Arnold, and Sophomore A.D Debose.
“Our kids played hard overall and we came out of the game with no severe injuries,” he said. “We are focusing on Anderson-Shiro this week. This is a must win game for us.”
Apple Springs
It’s been a tough year for the rebuilding Eagles, and Friday was no different as Apple Springs lost not only the game, but three starters.
Head Coach Cody Moree said that it was a five-point game up to the third quarter, but the loss of the starters left the Eagles with five of the six players on the field being freshmen, and the end score was 84-39.
Despite the score, though, Moree said he is very proud of how hard the kids played.
The team’s efforts included Nate Sanders throwing 29 of 47 for 348 yards and 5 TDs. At the other end of the arc were Zeth Dugat with 9 catches for 106 yards and 2TDs; Reagan Davis with 8 catches for 101 yards; and Peyton Williams with 7 catches for 88 yards and 3 TDs.
Bradyn Kaufman ran for 31 yards.
On defense, leading tacklers were Bradyn Kaufman with 11; Joseph Ocasiones with 9; Noah Thompson with 8 and a fumble recovery for a touchdown; Drake Pierce with 8 and a caused fumble; and Blaize McSwain with 6.
