Posted

WOODVILLE – The Allan Shivers Library and Museum is a gift to Tyler County from Allan and Marialice Shivers. Allan was the 37th Governor of Texas from 1949-1957 and was reared in Woodville.

The Museum continues to share his legacy through the permanent exhibit. The ASLM also has Pop-Up exhibits throughout the year.  The current Pop-Up spotlights Hunting Season. Prime Acres Whitetail Deer Ranch in Woodville is sharing several mounts and a lot of valuable information that highlight the Texas deer industry. The Texas Deer Association is committed to conservation, improving genetics and supporting Texas’ growing hunting economy. Little known facts tell us that the deer industry supports 16,892 jobs that are mostly in rural areas of the state.  The total economic impact of deer breeding in Texas is approximately $16 billion according to a 2017 study by Texas A&M AgriLife Research.

Texas deer breeders are at the forefront of wildlife conservation by promoting the health and welfare of animals and pursuing the best methods for management of deer herds across the state. Deer farmers utilizing genetics to reduce disease susceptibility will ultimately benefit Texas landowners and hunters while protecting our hunting heritage across the state of Texas.

The exhibit will be up through Saturday, Nov. 23. Come by and see the awesome mounts and learn more about deer and hunting conservation in Texas.
