WOODVILLE – The Allan Shivers Library and Museum has “Decked the Halls” this week. The Museum Pop-Up Exhibit opens this week and will run through Jan. 7, 2025.
This year’s Christmas Exhibit features John Gazzaway’s Miniature Village on loan for museum visitors to enjoy. The village features 37 different houses with all the accessories that go with it to carry you away to the winter wonderland of Christmas. You will be transported to a miniature Hallmark moment in time. Day or night there is much to see. The lights in the Exhibit Hall will be left on so that after hours visitors can enjoy the window decorations, banners and even peek in to see the village display.
Lights on the balcony of the museum enhance the beauty of the 1881 R.A. Cruse home that houses the museum. Allan Shivers, 37th Governor of Texas, never lived in the house, but as a child he passed it on his way to school here in Woodville. When he retired from politics, he bought the house and had it moved to its current location as a gift to all of the citizens of Tyler County. The Gazebo on the grounds is also lighted at night and would be a great place for family photos.
The museum newel post decoration at the staircase also makes for memorable photos. You are welcome to come enjoy your museum.
