The Yellowjacket baseball season ended in a two-game series loss to the Brookeland Wildcats on May 16 at Lamar College.
The Jackets fought hard in the first game losing only by one point in extra innings, 12-11. The Jackets led from the beginning when Will Thomason hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and two errors, scoring three runs. In the bottom of the second Thomason laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Jesse Bittick tripled down the left field line, each scoring one run. The Wildcats caught up and then took the lead in the top of the fourth. Jayse Gay singled to center field in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs, and an error scored another two.
The seventh inning was tied 11-11.
The Wildcats scored in the top of the eighth. Three strikeouts by the Jackets in the bottom of the eighth ended the game. Turner Johnson led at the plate with four hits in five at bats. Bryson Swanson and Waylon Sturrock had two stolen bases each. Sturrock took the loss going three and one third innings, allowing six runs on three hits, two strikeouts, and six walks. Cutter Lowe, Jesse Bittick, and Will Thomason each made appearances on the mound.
The Jackets had another chance on Friday, May 16 but ultimately lost 8-0. Waylon Sturrock and Cutter Lowe each collected two hits. Will Thomason took the loss going three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on three hits, six strikeouts and two walks.
The Jackets had a tremendous season with a 20-8-1 record.
