The Yellowjacket track teams participated in the district meet on Wednesday, April 2 at Hull Daisetta. Several Jackets advanced to the area meet which will be held this week on April 9 at Zavalla. For the girls, Allie Ogden placed first in Discus, Kyly Handley was third in triple jump and 1st in 300-meter hurdles, Sadie Garsee placed first in the 100m, the 4x100m and 4x200m relay team placed 3rd and includes runners Lauren Citrano, Kyli Handley, Marae Pounds, and Sadie Garsee, Kenley Busey was 4th in the 3200m run. On the boys side runners who advance to the area meet are Clay Busey second in 800m, Kevron Green 4th in 100m, Wyatt Roberts fourth in 300m hurdles, Kasen Citrano first in discus and second in shotput, Turner Johnson second in both long and triple jump, 4x100m relay 2nd with Keveron Green, Kasen Citrano, Bryson Swanson, and Jesse Bittick, 4x200m relay was second with Kevon Green, Hayden Mahaffey, Bryson Swanson, and Jesse Bittick, and the 4x400m relay came in second with Bryson Swanson, Gus David, Clay Busey, and Hayden Mahaffey.
The Lady Jacket softball team took on a double header against Burkeville on Thursday, April 3 and came out with wins in both games. The first game the Lady Jackets scored 8 runs in the first inning with Lily Read hitting in three, Emma Byrd hit a double scoring one, Lily Payne hit a two-run homer, and an error scored two. Lauren Citrano and Marae Pounds each added hits to the 15-0 win.
In the second game Lauren Citrano drove in five runs on two hits with a triple in the second inning. Allie Ogden, Tegan Toler, Lily Payne, Carlen Sluga, Madi Ogden, Madi Myers, and Sadie Garsee each added hits to help in the 23-5 win.
This week the Lady Jakets travel to Brookeland on April 8 for a 5 p.m. game, and on Friday, April 11, they will celebrate Senior Night against Zavalla at home with a 4:30 p.m. start time.
‘Jackets pick up two wins
The Yellowjacket baseball team picked up two wins this past week with a 7-4 win against Apple Springs and a 14-0 win at Burkeville. In the win at home against Apple Springs the bottom of the lineup came through for the team with Rex Gilzow, Kasen Citrano, and Jayse Gay combined totaling four of the eight hits of the game for the Jackets. Waylon Sturrock singled to center field, scoring one run in the first inning. Turner Johnson hit a double in the bottom of the sixth that scored the final two runs to help seal the victory. Jayse Gay, Waylon Sturrock, and Will Thomason each pitched.
Against Burkeville Turner Johnson and Cutter Lowe each had two hits, Jaxon Gay, Will Thomason, Jesse Bittick, and Bryson Swanson each had one hit. Lowe led RBI’s with three, Johnson and Swanson each had two, Jayse Gay, Henry David, Coltin Kosina each had one. Johnson earned the win for the Jackets allowing one hit, zero runs, four strikeouts, and one walk in two innings. Cutter Lowe came in as relief giving up zero hits, zero runs, eight strikeouts, and one walk. This week the Jackets will face big district opponent Brookeland, on April 8 with a 6 p.m. start time in Brookeland. On Friday, the Jackets play Zavalla at home with a 4 p.m. start time.
