J.R. “Dick” Johnston, 91, of Warren, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Dogwood Trails Manor in Woodville.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. service time on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Warren. Officiating will be Dr. David Mahfouz with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Air Force. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Fondren, David Standley, Ragan Bounds, Roy Hicks, Marvin Katzen, Ronnie Hearn, Donnie Gulley, Jim Willis, and Ken Cauthen.
Dick was born February 12, 1934 to George Washington and Elsie Mauldin Johnston in Norphlet, Arkansas. A longtime resident of Warren, he was a retired electrical engineer from Goodyear Tire & Rubber. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Warren, where he served many years as music director and deacon. FBC honored him with the title of Deacon Emeritus at the end of his service.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Jean Johnston of Warren; sons, Scott Johnston and wife, Rhonda of Wildwood, and Rex Johnston of Beaumont; sister, Peggy Luttrell of Longview; grandchildren, Ross Johnston, Jared Johnston, Jordan Johnston and wife Paige, Julie Blankenship and husband Ty, Brianna Johnston, and Chloe Johnston; and great grandchildren, Kaylee Johnston, Brooke Johnston, Joey Johnston, Clay Johnston, Bryce Johnston, Molly Johnston, Sam Johnston, Milo Blankenship, Sloane Johnston, and Adam Blankenship.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville.
