Lady Jackets best Colmesneil Lady Dogs, 16-5

CHESTER – The Lady Jackets beat Colmesneil 16-5 in three innings on Monday, March 3. Lily Payne went 3 for 3 at the plate with a single in the first and second inning and a double in the third inning. The Lady Jackets scored 8 runs on five hits by Allie Ogden, Lily Payne, Emma Byrd, Lauren Citrano,and Lily Read in the first inning. Ogden drove in two on a double. Ogden earned the win in the circle giving up three hits, one run, with three strikeouts and two walks. Lauren Citrano and Emma Byrd each had multiple hits while Tegan Toler collected three walks. Citrano stole two bases. 

On Friday, March 7 the Lady Jackets traveled to Diboll but did not stay long, losing 15-0 in three innings. Allie Ogden took the loss allowing 11 runs on six hits, three strikeouts, and nine walks. Sadie Garsee came in as relief. Ogden and Lauren Citrano each had one hit. 

This week the Lady Jackets will travel to Newton on Tuesday, March 11 with a 5pm game time and on Friday, March 14 they will travel to Colmesneil for a 4:30 game time. On Tuesday, March 18 the Lady Jackets will host Burkeville at 4:30 p.m. 

The Yellowjacket baseball team hosted a tournament and racked up wins from Sabine Pass, Kennard, and Wells. The Jackets had one loss, vs Timpson 2-3. In the Sabine Pass 11-2 win the Jackets drove in 7 runs in the first inning. Will Thomason drew a walk, Jesse Bittick singled, Rex Gilzow singled, Hayden Mahaffey walked, Turner Johnson singled, Waylon Sturrock walked, and Cutter Lowe was struck by a pitch, each of these drove in one run. Cutter Lowe, Turner Johnson, and Rex Gilzow each collected two hits and two RBI’s. Jesse Bittick earned the win giving up three hits and one run with five strikeouts and one walk. 

Against Kennard the Jackets got a slow start giving up 8 runs in the first inning. The Jackets came back in the second inning scoring seven runs on three hits from Bryson Swanson, Cutter Lowe, and Jesse Bittick. Lowe doubled in the third inning, scoring one run and Kasen Citrano grounded out, scoring a run. Cutter Lowe earned the win, surrendering one hit and one run with six strikeouts and one walk. 

Hayden Mahaffey showed up in the 7-5 win against Wells with a double, driving in two runs. Mahaffey went two for two at the plate. Turner Johnson also collected two hits. Jesse Bittick again earned the win giving up four hits, five runs, five strikeouts and three walks. 

This week the Jackets get Tuesday off to rest but will pick back up on Friday, March 14 at Hemphill with a 7pm game time. On Tuesday, March 18 the Jackets will travel to Trinity for a 6 p.m. game. 

Basketball District Awards named

Basketball District Awards were announced this week. Kasen Citrano earned Offensive MVP, Hunter Luther was named 1st team, Jesse Bittick 2nd team, Jayse Gay and Gus David were named Honorable Mention. For the Lady Jackets Kyli Handley earned Offensive MVP, Sydney Brock 1st team, Ty Cochran 2nd team, Abby Grimes and Lauren Citrano were Honorable Mention. Emma Byrd, Kyli Handley and Madi Ogden each earned THSCA Academic All State. 

Cheerleaders Emma Byrd and Kyli Handley were also awarded TGCA All-State Spirit and TGCA Spirit Academic All State.
