The Lady Jackets met up with the Buckholts Lady Badgers on Thursday, Nov. 7 for the Area round of playoffs.
The Lady Jackets swept the Lady Badgers in three sets with scores of 25-5, 25-5, and 25-7. Lily Read led the offense with 18 kills. Read also had one ace and 4 service receptions.
Lauren Citrano and Ty Cochran each had 7 kills. Citrano went 8/8 on the service line with 2 aces, she added one solo block, 3 digs, and 3 service receptions. Lily Payne and Marae Pounds ended with 2 kills. Payne led in aces with 10. Josie Pecina had one kill and 2 aces. Emma Byrd had one kill, went 13/13 on the service line with 3 aces, and led assists with 35. Kyli Handley had 6 aces and one dig. Sydney Brock led defense with 5 digs and 2 service receptions.
The win advances the Lady Jackets to the Regional Quarterfinals which is set for Tuesday, Nov. 12, 7 p.m., at Huntsville High School vs Round Top Carmine.
A win would send the Lady Jackets to the Regional Tournament hosted by Brenham High School. The Regional Semifinal game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 15 vs the D’Hanis Lady Cowgirls at 5 p.m.
‘Jackets shut out Cardinals
The Yellowjacket football team made an impressive showing for Senior Night against High Island, beating the Cardinals 50-0 with mercy rule ending the game at halftime.
Jesse Bittick had 101 yards with 3 touchdowns, and 2 tackles. Kasen Citrano had 2 carries for 35 yards and 2 touchdowns, 5 tackles, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Rex Gilzow had 1 carry for 3 yards. Senior Tanner Whitworth had 1 carry for a touchdown.
Senior Clay Busey ended with one carry for 5 yards and one pass broken up. Senior Cutter Lowe had 2 tackles. Blake Zulpo had 3 tackles, one pass broken up, and one interception. Turner Johnson had 2 tackles. Coltin Kosina, Wyatt Roberts, and Jayse Gay all had one tackle. Bryson Swanson rounded out the defense with a fumble recovery and 2 tackles.
The win advances the Yellowjackets to the Bi-District round of playoffs vs Abbott on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Oakwood High School with kickoff time scheduled for 7 p.m.
