Lady Jackets, ‘Jackets end respective seasons

The Lady Jackets season came to an end when they met up with Round Top Carmine in the Regional Quarterfinal on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The first set of the game set the tone for the match with a score of 30-28 in Round Top’s favor. The Lady Jackets lost the second set 17-25. The third and fourth sets kept the Lady Jackets in the fight with scores of 25-16 and 25-17. It all came down to the 5th set where the Lady Jackets immediately fell behind 0-4. It was a hard deficit to come back from, only going to 15 points this set. Ultimately the Lady Jackets fell 9-15 losing the match. Senior Lily Read led kills with 26. Read also had 2 aces, 13 digs, and 18 service receptions.

Junior Marae Pounds had 23 kills, 5 digs, and 6 service receptions. Junior Lily Payne ended with 3 kills, 2 solo blocks, and one dig. Junior Lauren Citrano and Senior Emma Byrd each had 2 kills.

Citrano added 3 aces, 26/26 on the service line, 14 digs, and 21 service receptions. Byrd led in assists with 49, went 24/24 on the service line with 4 aces, and had 7 digs. Ty Cochran had a big night on the net with 3 solo blocks, and one kill. Senior Kyli Handley contributed going 12/13 on the service line. Senior Sydney Brock led defense with 46 digs and 39 service receptions. The Lady Jackets finished the season with a 38-10 record.

‘Jackets’ season comes to close

The Yellowjacket football team also saw their season come to an end on Nov. 14 with a 14-60 loss from #2 ranked Abbott. The Jackets started the game with a kickoff return by Kasen Citrano. Citrano continued his night with 9 carries for 40 yards, 4 catches for 35 yards, two touchdowns, and three tackles.

Jesse Bittick had 17 carries for 92 yards, 1 catch for 6 yards, a 12-yard interception, and two tackles. Turner Johnson went 3 for 8 with 41 yards. Rex Gilzow had one catch for 12 yards. Blake Zulpo had three tackles. Clay Busey and Jayse Gay ended with two tackles. The Jackets finish the season with a 4-5 record.

With the close of volleyball and football seasons, basketball starts this week. Both boys and girls teams will travel to Apple Springs with girls tip off scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
