The Livingston Lady Lions basketball fell 42-27 at home to the Henderson Lady Lions on Tuesday.
Although Livingston controlled the game in the first period, Henderson quickly gained its footing and pulled away by early in the second half.
“We just got flustered with their defensive press,” said Lady Lions head coach John Papasideris. “We were breaking it at some points, but then got in a hurry and made silly turnovers. Those little things we need to work on.”
Henderson senior Kyeisha Clater was the game’s leading scorer with 13 total points.
Sophomore Regan Lewis was the top scorer for Livingston with 11 points.
“We have exceeded our win total from last year already and we are young,” Papasideris said. “If we work on cutting turnovers and rebounding more, we will be in better shape by district time … We are still trying our rotations how we want them.”
It was a first-period battle for points, as both teams were scoreless early.
Lewis helped control the boards for much of that quarter and finally scored the first three points with a bucket and on the foul.
Henderson senior Kyla Tyeskey scored two for the visiting team as Livingston led 6-2 after the first period.
Livingston sophomore Corinne Henderson drew a foul to start the second period for two points.
However, Henderson freshman Kayounie Alexander would catch a break drawing a foul on a fast break turnover and start to turn things around for the visitors.
Henderson quickly closed the gap and senior Baleigh Deese tied it at 10 points with a big 3-pointer.
Livingston would get stops, but then could not make the passes in transition as they did in the first period. Henderson outscored Livingston and controlled the game 17-11 at halftime.
Henderson continued to put their foot on the gas as Livingston went scoreless in the third, but later broke the streak and outscored Henderson 16-9 in the final period.
The Livingston Lady Lions are scheduled to play their next match Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Central Heights, starting at 1:15 p.m.
