Local students excel in competition at wildlife event

Teams from the Polk-San Jacinto Soil and Water Conservation District #436 participated in the Wildlife and Recreation Management Career Development Event at the Big Thicket Reserve in Kountze that was sponsored by the Lower Neches Soil and Water Conservation District on Sept. 17.

The event examines the importance of wildlife and outdoor recreation with emphasis on the conservation and management of wildlife and natural resources. Several schools from different soil and water conservation districts across this area participated. The overall results were Warren ISD FFA placing first, Livingston ISD FFA placing second and Onalaska ISD FFA placing third.

Within the Polk-San Jacinto SWCD #436 first place honors went to Livingston ISD FFA students Ashlynn Moore, Jamie Grimes, Brooke Vahya and Kyle Leblanc. Second place honors went to Onalaska ISD FFA students Brayden Tompkins, Conner Graham, Kayden Ard and Jayde Niemeyer. Third place honors went to Onalaska ISD FFA students Wyatt Fraga, Carson Davies, Chase Hoover and Brylie Tieskoetter. The overall high point winner was Ashylnn Moore of Livingston ISD FFA.
