Point Blank looks ahead to road grants

POINT BLANK — The city of Point Blank has more road projects in the works, but may have to wait until federal funding issues are worked out.

Mayor Mark Wood told the City Council at the Feb. 10 regular meeting that the city recently completed quite a bit of road work in Governor’s Point and now has $1 million in grants coming to do more.

However, Wood said that a federal mitigation grant of $500,000 is a question mark since there is a freeze on grant spending, but a Community Development Block Grant of $500,000 from the state is available, and the city currently is seeking bids.

In other business, the council:

  • presented the San Jacinto County First Responders with a $2,200 grant;
  • approved seeking contractors for repair of the septic system at the Civic Center. Wood said the center was built in 1992 on what was previously a shopping center, and an existing system was used. The sewer line has since collapsed;
  • approved an agreement with San Jacinto County for road maintenance; and
  • discussed participation in an emergency preparedness expo on April 26.
