Shepherd ladies move on to regionals

HUFFMAN — The Shepherd Lady Pirates won two of three games against Rusk over the weekend to claim the area title and to move on to face Robinson in the regionals.

On Thursday, Shepherd won 5-4. Chloe Fuller led the offense with three hits, including two doubles, and Skyleigh Lagow added two hits. Isabelle Hooper added a triple and two RBIs.

Hooper also took the mound, throwing seven strikeouts while allowing 6 hits and walking 2.

On Friday, the Lady Pirates lost 5-1.

On Saturday, Shepherd won 12-2 behind Lagow’s three hits, which included a homer, and three RBIs. Hooper, Adison Simpson, Neveah Murphey and Rylei Brewer all added two hits apiece, with Murphey pushing five across the plate.

Hooper again had mound duty, throwing seven strikeouts while giving up four hits and one walk.

The Lady Trojans’ win streak came to an end, along with their postseason dreams, after losing two games to Huntington, the first 5-0 and the second 5-1.

The Trojans ended their postseason romp on Saturday after losing two games to one against Van Vleck.

On Thursday, Coldspring lost 6-1, but stormed back on Saturday for a 5-2 win. In the rubber match, Van Vleck edged the Trojans out 3-1.
