Shirley Ann Vannoy, 90, of Livingston Texas, passed into eternal rest on October 5, 2024.
Born on July 17, 1934, in Palestine, Texas, she was the embodiment of love and dedication as a sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married George Vannoy at the age of 16 and was happily married for 71 years. Coming to Livingston in the early 1970s, her role as homemaker transitioned into a successful businessperson alongside her husband, George Vannoy. Together, they owned and operated Piggly Wiggly Supermarket, which later became Affiliated Foods, serving the Livingston community for 25 years.
Shirley was a sports enthusiast, her support for the Houston Astros unwavering and her enthusiasm for the Texas A&M Aggies undying. She was passionately involved in her local community, holding the distinction of being a past president and lifetime member of the Polk County Garden Club. She also enjoyed league bowling, participating in numerous tournaments nationwide, and gave of her time to the American Legion.
Shirley and her husband shared a passion for travel, visiting every state in the U.S. and across the continents experiencing cultures of China, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Novia Scotia, and Canada. Additionally, she nurtured a delightful hobby, creating an extensive collection of pig-themed memorabilia over seven decades.
Shirley was a member of the Livingston Church of Christ and found strength and solace in her faith. Her memorial service will take place at this church on Monday, October 21, 2024.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Barbara Soileau; her children, Gary W. Vannoy, Cathy Patranella and husband Frank and Pamela Morgan and husband Keith; her grandchildren, Gared Vannoy, Mendy Fears, Joey Patranella, Jason Patranella, Jennifer Grimm, Kevin Morgan, Kelly Warner and Kyle Morgan; along with 19 treasured great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Marguerite Bacon; brothers Bobby and Jerry Bacon; and her sister Sandra Trala.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Polk County Garden Club. The Vannoy family has entrusted Cochran’s Funeral Home of Livingston with the funeral arrangements.
Shirley Ann Vannoy’s life was richly woven with devotion, family and community service. Her warmth, generosity and the memory of her infectious enthusiasm for life will be dearly missed. 370
