Storm blows through county

GROVETON — A severe thunderstorm blew through the county Tuesday morning, uprooting trees, damaging homes and killing power and phone service from Trinity to Groveton.

School property was damaged in Trinity, prompting the administration to send students home in order to evaluate damage.

Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said there were reports of trees and power lines down on roads in the area. However, no injuries were reported.

The county and surrounding area was under a severe thunderstorm warning Tuesday, and reports indicate that a line of severe thunderstorms was near Groveton, 18 miles southwest of Apple Springs, moving northeast at 55 mph.

The area suffered 60 mph wind gusts.

Other areas included in the warning were Point Blank, Seven Oaks, Onalaska, Huntsville, Leggett, Sebastopol, Trinity, Apple Springs, Pennington, Moscow, Oakhurst, Groveton, Corrigan, Kennard, Centralia, and Riverside.
