NEW WAVERLY — The Tigers took the short trip to New Waverly Friday night in hopes to end the season on a winning note and play spoilers as the Bulldogs seek a playoff berth.
That wasn’t in the cards as Trinity was downed 34-0 by the Bulldogs.
The Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove the ball to the Bulldog 22-yard line where a fumble gave the Bulldogs the ball. The Tigers were unable to stop the Bulldogs and after a heavy dose of running the Bulldogs scored and took a 7-0 lead. Neither team was able to gain any traction on offense for the remainder of the quarter, but the Tigers were able to force two fumbles ending drives for the Bulldogs.
The Tigers’ offensive fortunes did not improve as the second quarter began. After a punt by the Tigers, the Bulldog running back broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run and gave the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead with 5:50 left in the first hal Trinity running back Jammale Johnson gets run out of bounds by New Waverly defenders. f. As time wound down in the second quarter, the Tigers drove the ball to the Bulldog 7-yard line, but a fumble ended the drive and the Tigers hopes of narrowing the lead before halftime.
The Tigers started the third quarter with a defensive stop and tried to gain momentum on the Bulldogs, but the Tigers inability to consistently move the ball on offense gave the Bulldogs the edge. New Waverly was able to increase the lead to 20-0 during the third quarter and eventually took a 34-0 victory over the Tigers.
The Tigers ended their season with 4 wins, 5 losses and one forfeit which will make the official record 5-5 for the season. Although the Tigers and their staff were hoping to make a playoff run, the 5 wins in the season is a vast improvement over the previous consecutive winless seasons.
With many of the starters and skill position players returning in 2025, Coach Shaun Stout and the players are optimistic to continue improving and laying the foundation for a winning Tiger program that can last.
