A Dec. 4 traffic stop on US Hwy. 59 near Goodrich yielded approximately three pounds of marijuana and U.S. currency believed to be illicit proceeds from narcotic sales.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detective Ontiveros was monitoring traffic when he made a traffic stop on a vehicle in violation of the Texas Transportation Code.

A search of the vehicle revealed four shrink-wrapped bags of marijuana concealed within a Nespresso box and a “significant” amount of U.S. currency.

Oscar Alejandro Salinas, 50 of Shepherd, was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of marijuana.

“This case highlights the department’s commitment to combating illegal drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of our community,” Captain Dave Sottosanti said, adding, “Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.”
