COLDSPRING — the Trojans pulled off a near-shutout performance against Northside, overpowering the Falcons 10-1 on Friday.
With a towering 6-foot-8 sophomore pitcher on the mound and an infield full of senior talent, the Falcons seemed poised to challenge the Trojans; however, the Falcons’ ace struggled with control, missing the strike zone and hitting four batters before the third inning concluded.
The Trojans capitalized on these miscues, turning them into scoring opportunities.
“We were finally able to capitalize fully on the other team’s mistakes (walks, HBP) and have the timely hits when we needed them,” said head coach Austin Riddell.
The Trojans wasted no time, posting four runs in the first inning and maintaining offensive pressure for the entire game. By the final out, they had secured a commanding 10-1 victory.
On the mound, McCade Hilton threw three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out 6. Nolan Beaver took over in relief, pitching four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and racking up 7 strikeouts.
Offensively, Kaden Hubbard went 1-for-2 with an RBI, Brennan Headley contributed a 1-for-4 performance with an RBI, and Cadyn Barton added a 1-for-3 effort at the plate.
“We’re looking forward to the upcoming district season. We’re ready to compete at a higher level,” said first baseman Wade Currie.
On Feb. 11, Coldspring beat the Jewett-Leon Cougars 11-1.
Coldspring wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, posting four runs in the first inning, adding four more in the third, and capping off the night with three runs in the sixth. The Cougars managed to break the shutout with a single run in the third inning, ending the Trojans’ bid for their third no-hitter of the season.
On the mound, McCade Hilton delivered a dominant first inning with three strikeouts before handing the ball to Jordan Ash, who pitched four solid innings and recorded two strikeouts. Kaden Hubbard closed out the game striking out three batters.
At the plate, Wade Currie led the way, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. McCade Hilton contributed with a 2-for-3 night, while Brennan Headly and David Rowe each went 1-for-2. Rowe also drove in two runs to help seal the victory.

The Shepherd Pirates faced a tough start to district play, falling 3-2 to the Tarkington Longhorns in a tightly contested matchup. Costly errors proved to be the difference, but the Pirates remain determined to bounce back.
“We just made a few errors that cost us, but we will regroup and come with another thriller on Friday,” said Head Coach Anthony Trevino.
The Longhorns struck first, posting a run in both the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Pirates responded in the fourth, finally getting on the scoreboard to cut the deficit to 2-1. Both teams added a run in the sixth inning, but Shepherd couldn’t complete the comeback, allowing Tarkington to secure the district opener.
On the mound, Marshall Reeves got the start for the Pirates, throwing 89 pitches and recording five strikeouts. He was relieved late in the game by Landin Dillinger, who added another strikeout to the stat sheet.
At the plate, Kyler Syracuse led the Pirates’ offense, going 3-for-4 on the night. Koby Pippen and David Somers each went 1-for-2, while Reeves contributed with a 1-for-4 performance.
