The Coldspring Trojans continue their push for a solid playoff spot, handing rival Trinity two shutout losses over the week.
On April 8, the Trojans blanked the Tigers with an 18-0 blowout win.
Nolan Beaver was in command from the start, putting on a dominant performance on the mound by racking up eight strikeouts while allowing just one hit and issuing four walks. Jordan Ash kept the momentum going with two strikeouts in his one inning.
Beaver didn’t just shine on the mound — he was a force at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and scoring twice. Brennan Headley also had a big night, matching Beaver’s 3-for-4 performance and nearly hitting for the cycle. He smacked a single, double, and triple and adding three RBIs and one run. McCall Hilton contributed with a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and crossed home twice.
On Friday, Coldspring clinched a playoff spot with 12-0 shutout over Trinity.
The Trojans’ pitching staff continued its strong performance this season, led by McCade Hilton, who was dominant on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 12 Tiger batters. Jordan Ash came in to finish the job, pitching the final inning without allowing a hit and adding 2 more strikeouts to the Trojans’ total.
Offensively, the Trojans broke the game open in the fourth inning and never looked back. They finished with 11 hits and only one error on the night.
Leading the way at the plate was Brennan Headley, who went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and scored twice. Jordan Ash also had a solid night, going 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored. Kaden Hubbard went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and crossed the plate once. Wade Currie added a 2-for-3 performance with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Hilton helped his own cause with a 1-for-2 night, driving in a run and scoring twice. Cadyn Barton chipped in as well, going 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.
The Pirates were handed a shutout on Friday, losing 4-0 to Hamshire-Fannett.
The Lady Trojans dominated the Lady Tigers 19-3 on April 8.
“Tonight’s win was a great team victory. Everyone contributed — from players 1 through 13 — whether at the plate, on the bases, or in the field,” said Head Coach Dwain Anderson. “The girls are working hard and getting ready for the playoffs.”
Offensively, the Lady Trojans were red-hot at the plate, racking up 16 hits.
“Every player had at least one base hit tonight,” Anderson said. “We’ve been focusing on staying aggressive in the strike zone, and it’s really starting to pay off.”
Starting pitcher Trinity Rosales faced 13 batters, giving up just one hit while striking out six. After Rosales wrapped up her outing, senior Ashney Minor took over in the circle, facing six batters and recording two strikeouts of her own.
Rosales also shined at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, and three RBIs. Jasper Williams matched that performance, going 3-for-4 with a single, double, and triple. Addison Headley contributed with a 2-for-4 effort and two RBIs, while Minor went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs.
On Friday, the Lady Trojans were on the brink of making history. With just two games remaining, the Coldspring Lady Trojans Softball team is poised to complete the first undefeated season in the history of the program.
The game kicked off with a bang, courtesy of Jasper Williams. With a 1-1 count, Williams launched a powerful home run over the left field fence, clearing it by more than a foot. The team collected 10 hits overall and played error-free defense.
Trinity Rosales continued her dominant season in the circle, striking out 12 and allowing only 3 hits on the night. Camry Barton, Addison Headley, and Jasper Williams each went 2-for-4 at the plate, contributing to the team's offensive success.
“Next up is Onalaska. With two more wins, we are looking to finish undefeated for the first time in the history of Coldspring Softball,” Anderson said.
The Shepherd Pirates and Lady Pirates teams held Teacher Appreciation Night before competing against Hamshire-Fannett on April 8, honoring educators for their efforts.
The Lady Pirates lost 6-4. Maci Wilson led the offense with 2 hits; Isabelle Hooper got the loss, tossing 13 strikeouts but giving up 11 hits.
On Friday, Shepherd was blanked 13-0 by Liberty. Isabelle Hooper had the lone hit for the Lady Pirates, while Swayze Nelson getting the loss on the mound.
