Apple Springs goes 3-2 at Zavalla tournament

ZAVALLA — The Lady Eagles romped through the Zavalla tournament, winning three games and only losing two on the weekend.

On Thursday, Apple Springs downed Hull-Daisetta 9-6. Sophie Oldham and Makenzie Cockrell each went 2-for-2 at the plate, and Kymber Roberts drove in 3 runs on her lone at-bat. Faith Smith got the win on the mound with 5 strikeouts while allowing only 4 hits.

Then, the Lady Eagles lost 14-1 to Cushing. Abrie McWhorter got the lone hit and the lone run, racking up 2 steals in the process. Cockrell and McWhorter shared mound duty, with McWhorter giving up 13 hits.

On Friday, the team lost 10-0 to Good Samaritan HomeSchool, with the loss going to Faith Smith. Then, the Lady Eagles stormed back, beating Hull-Daisetta 12-4. Apple Springs capped off the tournament, with a 6-5 win over Martinsville.

In the final game, McWhorter led the offense with 2 hits, and Faith Smith got the win behind 4 strikeouts.

Groveton

On Feb. 18, the Lady Indians overpowered Diboll 15-1.

During the Howard Estes Tournament in Jacksonville on Thursday, Groveton lost to Huntington 6-1. Then on Friday, Groveton blanked Jacksonville 10-0, and on Saturday, the Lady Indians beat Joaquin 11-7 and hammered Tatum 23-5.

Trinity

During the Corrigan tournament on Thursday, Skylar Knight went 2-for-2 with a solo home run to help Trinity win 11-1 over Chester. Rainy Hall surrendered 4 hits and one run in 3 innings.

Then against host Corrigan-Camden, Knight went 2-for-2, and Chrissie Vaughn went 1-for-2 with a 2-run homer. Rainy Hall gave up 4 runs with 2 strikeouts, and Trinity fell short 4-3 in the last 8 minutes of the game.

On Feb. 17, Trinity overpowered the Centerville Tigers 17-2.

Boys
Groveton

The Indians blanked New Summerfield 15-0 on Feb. 17.

Leading at the plate were Dax Parker with 2 hits, including a double, and 2 RBIs, and Cade White with 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Cash Moore got the call on the mound, tossing 7 strikeouts while remaining hitless.

On Thursday, Groveton again blanked their opponent during the Woden Tournament, beating Douglass 14-0.

Austin Williams had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and Moore had 2 hits to lead the offense. Parker’s lone hit drove in 3 runs. Moore and Jack Sullivan combined for pitching duty, combined for 8 strikeouts while allowing only 1 hit.

Then on Friday, the Indians lost to Timpson 4-0. Ty Torregrossa had 2 hits, while Gunner Wilson, Moore and White added each added 1. Parker and Williams worked the mound, combining for 6 strikeouts.

Trinity

The Tigers lost to Alpha Omega Academy 4-1 on Feb. 17.

On the mound, Canyen Hollis hurled 62 pitches and 45 strikes and 4 strikeouts over 4 innings, giving up 3 earned runs. Reliever Austin Wallace tossed 22 pitches and 13 strikes over 2 innings, giving up 1 earned run.
