TRINITY — The Trinity ISD Board of Trustees approved a slate of policy changes for the district, particularly those geared toward the grievance policy.

Superintendent Dr. John Kaufman said that the change lengthens the amount of time employees or parents have to file a grievance, as well allowing grievances to be filed beyond established timelines.

The new policy states that missing deadlines cannot be a reason to deny an employee grievance filing, but those must be viewed on a case-by-case basis. The district still must follow timelines for parental filings.

Kaufman said there was too much to go over at one meeting and that only half of the recommended changes from the Texas Association of School Boards were approved. The board will consider the rest at its next meeting.

In a separate matter, the trustees split its 1,385 votes evenly between candidates for the Trinity County Appraisal District board members, and its 28 votes were divided evenly for candidates in the Walker County Appraisal District election.

At a special meeting on Monday, the board discussed Kaufman’s resignation, as he is retiring in May 2027. He will be assigned as superintendent emeritus in August 2027 to assist with the transition to a new superintendent.
