Carson enters race for Texas House District 9

Paulette Carson, a dedicated conservative and community advocate, is a candidate for Texas House District 9 in the 2026 Republican primary, representing Angelina, Houston, Polk, San Augustine, Trinity, and Tyler counties.

Born in Arrington, England, to a U.S. Air Force family, Carson’s journey has been defined by her commitment to faith, family, and fiscal responsibility. Now a longtime resident of Nogalus Prairie, she lives with her husband, Charlie, and their special needs son, Caleb, on their cattle ranch in the Davy Crockett National Forest. They have two other sons: Kyle, a small business owner, and David, a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Space Force. Carson’s deep ties to East Texas fuel her mission to represent its values in Austin.

Carson’s professional background is rooted in business and leadership. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Stephen F. Austin University, with an emphasis on management and economics. Her career includes significant roles in project management and contract negotiation, notably with Brown & Root, Inc., and later leading a contracts management division for a firm supporting gold-mining operations in Africa.

These experiences honed her skills as a fiscal steward, equipping her to advocate for responsible government spending.  Carson’s business acumen drives her criticism of Texas’ state budget, which grew from $248 billion in 2021 to $338 billion in 2025. She argues this $90 billion increase could have been redirected to reduce property taxes, a key issue for East Texas families.

Beyond her professional achievements, Carson is a passionate advocate for those in need. Witnessing the impact of Communist regimes in Eastern Europe, she founded Beautiful Gate Translations, a nonprofit producing Christian media in native languages, transforming lives across 20 countries. With encouragement from former Representative James White, she launched Voices 4 Special Needs – East Texas to address inadequate services for special needs families by engaging community leaders and legislators. Her advocacy reflects a deep commitment to improving lives, driven by her faith and involvement in Harmony Hill Baptist Church.

Carson’s political journey is grounded in conservative principles and a rejection of establishment politics. A former Vice Chair of the Trinity County Republican Party and Past President of the Republican Women of Trinity County, she has long championed the Republican platform.

She aims to strengthen the region’s economy by supporting local leaders, protecting our existing industries, and working with Gov. Abbott to beat back the property tax monster that burdens all Texans.
