NIGTON — It was a day of joy, of fellowship, of dominos, and of dedication as the residents of this Trinity County village gathered on Sept. 13.
By all accounts, Roosevelt Hall, the 2025 Nigton Day chairman, did an amazing job, and the event is growing each year; it brings the community together and proceeds help fund programs delivered by the Nigton Historical Development Project at the new multipurpose center.
A post by Nigton resident Ruth Williams offered a tribute to Loretta Mark, an inspirational member of the community.
“As we come together in celebration of our community, we also pause to reflect, to remember, and to honor the life of someone who has touched each of our hearts in ways that words can scarcely express. We dedicate this day to the memory of our beloved Loretta Clevette Mark — a woman whose spirit, love, and strength continue to inspire us all.
“While Loretta may no longer walk among us in the physical sense, her legacy lives on in every one of us here today,” Williams said. “Her kindness, her grace, her wisdom, and her unwavering commitment to the well-being of this community are qualities that will never fade.”
Williams said Loretta was the embodiment of love in action, seeing the good in everyone and tirelessly working to uplift others, making sure no one ever felt forgotten or alone.
“She believed deeply in the power of unity, in the strength we find in each other, and in the importance of leaving a lasting impact on the world around us,” she said. “Let us commit to carrying forward the values she held dear — compassion, kindness, and a deep, abiding respect for one another. Let us be inspired by the example she set and let us find ways to continue her work in our own lives.
“As we gather here today to celebrate Nigton Day, let us remember that this event is not only about celebrating our shared history and achievements, but also about honoring those who have helped shape it,” Williams said. “Loretta’s dedication to community, her love for her family, and her unshakable faith are the foundation upon which so much of our strength stands today.”
