The Centerville Bulldogs posted their 11-straight win for a first-place spot in the North Zulch tournament, while the Trinity Lady Tigers took third in Buffalo over the weekend.
Groveton
The Lady Indians went 2-2 in the Slocum Tournament, defeating Gary and Mount Enterprise but losing to Martinsville and Cushing.
Against Gary, Groveton won 57-22. Leading scorers were Lauren Moore with 12, Laney Peterson with 11, and Marie Gonzalez with 5.
Against Mount Enterprise, Groveton won 37-27. Leading scorer was Kayleigh Albus with 14, Lauren Moore with 7, and Laney Peterson with 5.
Against Martinsville, Groveton lost 43-26. Leading scorers were Kayleigh Albus with 8, Kady Lee with 6 and Aubrey Alexander with 3.
Against Cushing, Groveton lost 36-31. Leading scorers were Kayleigh Albus with 12 points and 9 rebounds, Laney Peterson with 6 points and 4 rebounds, and Lauren Moore with 5 points.
On Dec. 3, the Lady Indians lost to New Waverly 63-32. Leading scorer was Kayleigh Albus with 11 points and 6 rebounds, Darbi Parker with 9 points, and Laney Peterson with 6 points and 9 rebounds.
Trinity
The Lady Tigers went 3-2 in the weekend Buffalo Tournament, claiming third place.
For her efforts, Mariah Tyson was named to the all-tournament team and averaged a double-double in points and rebounds.
The first game was a 49-25 loss to Buffalo. Tyson was the top producer with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Then, Trinity fell 50-39 to Cayuga. Tyson put up 12 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
It was all wins after, as Trinity downed Iola 64-23, Centerville 46-25 and Onalaska 39-28.
Against Iola, Tyson had 13 points and 17 rebounds.
Against Centerville, Tyson had 18 points and 19 rebounds.
Against Onalaska, Tyson had 18 points and 17 rebounds.
Centerville
The Lady Bulldogs lost to Wells 55-18 on Dec. 3.
Apple Springs
The Lady Eagles were 0-4 in the Holiday Hoops Tournament in Apple Springs over the weekend.
The team lost to Oakwood 35-27; lost to Hyde Park 65-7; lost to Chester 67-17; and lost to Pineywoods Community Academy 53-8.
On Dec. 3, the Lady Eagles lost 85-6 against Broaddus. Katie Davis led the team with 3 points.
Boys
Centerville
The Bulldogs posted a 59-46 win over Alpha Omega to claim first place in the North Zulch tournament over the weekend.
Overall, the team went 4-0 in the tournament, and has won 11 games in a row this season.
Against St. Joseph’s Catholic, Centerville won 87-49. Jake Slaten was a monster on the court, posting 43 points. Other leaders include Kolt Larsen with 18 and Iain Kendrick with 14.
Against A&M Consolidated Freshmen, Centerville won 92-51, with Slaten again posting huge points with 53, followed by Kendrick with 21.
Against North Zulch, Centerville won 72-39. Slaten led scoring with 23, followed by Kendrick with 20 and Hardy Brown with 10.
Against Alpha Omega Academy, Centerville won 59-46. Slaten was top scorer with 26, followed by Larsen with 19.
On Dec. 3, Centerville earned a 69-26 victory over the Chester Yellowjackets.
Top producers were Jake Slaten with 34 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 blocks and 1 steal; Iain Kendrick with 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals; Kolt Larsen with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals; Hardy Brown with 4 points. 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals; Wyatt Clede with 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal; and Chris Fry with 6 points and 1 assist.
Trinity
The Tigers went 2-2 in the Alto Tournament over the weekend.
Against Wells, Trinity lost 65-58; against Elkhart, Trinity won 48-36; against Central JV, Trinity lost 73-10; and against LaPoyner, Trinity lost 74-67.
On Dec. 3, Trinity downed Alpha Omega Academy 64-47.
Groveton
The Indians went 2-1 during the Holiday Hoops tournament in Apple Springs.
Against the Apple Springs JV, Groveton won 37-25. Ruger McLain led the team with 14 points, followed by Josiah Allen with 11.
Against Lead Academy, Groveton won 38-20. McLain and George Snyder each had 11 points to lead the offense.
Against the Apple Springs varsity team, Groveton lost 64-33. Ty Torregrossa led the team with 10 points, while Zeth Dugat dominated the net with 34 points for Apple Springs.
On Dec. 3, Groveton lost to Kennard 81-25. Josiah Allen and Ruger McLain each had 6 points in the effort.
Apple Springs
The Eagles varsity’s two wins put it at the top of the brackets in the Apple Springs Holiday Hoops Tournament.
Apple Springs downed Groveton 64-33 behind a huge 34-point effort by Zeth Dugat and beat LEAD Academy 56-20.
On Dec. 3, Dugat put up 19 points, but it wasn’t enough, and the Eagles lost to Spurger 49-46. Dilyn Baird added 11 points in the effort.
