CENTERVILLE — The Lady Dawgs and jumping back into the volleyball pool — outlaw-style.

Head Coach Kevin Parker said the decision to restart the volleyball program at Centerville ISD was a bit rushed, so this year, they are playing whatever games they can pick up over the season.

Parker recently returned to coaching at Centerville from Groveton; in his first stint as a Bulldog, he spent six years coaching boys and girls basketball. This year, not only is the sport fairly new, he is new as well, having not coached volleyball before.

“They had this way, way back — and now it’s being revived,” he said. “This is new to them, and new to me … (but) my daughter (Darbi Parker) came with me from Groveton, and she’s a big volleyball player, and since the girls wanted to play, it just kind of worked out.”

He said they are not in the district right now, so they play mostly for fun — fun for the team, and fun for Parker, who said it was amazing to see how the team has progressed since they started as a blank slate.

“We hope to be the outlaws of 1A,” he said.
