TRINITY — Updates to city ordinances were approved by the Trinity City Council, with an admonition from Council Member Clegg DeWalt that updating ordinances was futile if they are not enforced.

The council approved changes at Thursday’s meeting to an ordinance declaring certain places conducive to the breeding of flies and mosquitoes as health hazards and requiring the city Health Officer to notify the property owners to have the problem abated.

Currently, the city’s Health Officer is Dr. Lawrence Kwan, and the notices will be issued by city enforcement officer Linda Nolen.

The council also OK’d a new ordinance to help control public health nuisances, with penalties of violators being prosecuted through the municipal court system.

The ordinance also sets fines for failure to clean up areas after notices have been filed.

A change also was made to the city ordinance regarding the accumulation of trash, providing for fines for offenders

In other business, the council:

• approved the current tax roll from the Trinity County Appraisal District;

•authorized a $1,500 donation to the Pet Fixer’s Program;

•approved a resolution establishing interest and sinking funds for all city debt, and one for deposit requirements to retire debt;

•approved a bid from Raymond Vann for administration services for a Tx-CDBG grant; and

•approved the holiday schedule for the coming fiscal year.
