Commission to research insurance

GROVETON — The Trinity County Commissioners Court delayed a vote on extending insurance coverage to volunteers and volunteer board members.

At a regular meeting on Nov. 11, Jeffrey Anderson, director of the Friday Community Center, addressed the court concerning liability coverage for the center and the volunteer fire department, and whether the volunteers and board members were covered should any lawsuits be filed.

Anderson was concerned that while the buildings were covered, he was told that coverage did not extend to people working at the buildings. The policies were put in place as the county owns the buildings.

The court tabled the measure for research, specifically with the Texas Association of Counties.

In a related matter, the court tabled a measure that would require board members of civic organizations using county property to sign waivers of liability.

In other business, commissioners:

  • approved renewal of official bonds;
  • approved personnel action forms;
  • approved a budget amendment;
  • tabled an amendment to a contract with IT Enabled for support services at a cost of $47,410 to research options;
  • approved Langford Community Management services as a grant administrator and BLEYL Engineering as for design work regarding a Community Development Block Grant;
  • approved a donation of $1,000 from CJR Service for the purchase of tasers;
  • approved splitting votes for the Appraisal District Board equally between the four candidates; and
  • approved a resolution from the Texas Department of Agriculture for Texans Feeding Texans, a home-delivered meal grant program.
